Men’s Soccer: Catamounts downed at Region XX Tourney

COLUMBIA, MD — Potomac State cut the lead in half to 2-1 when Brandon Lee scored in the 16th minute of the first half, but Howard scored twice more in the first half and once again in the second to beat the Catamounts 5-1 in the Region XX Playoffs Thursday in Columbia.

The Dragons scored on Jonathan Horrocks penalty kick and when Horrocks assisted Ian Evans in the first 15 minutes.

Lee scored 16 minutes into the first half on Gabe Kiddy’s assist, but Emanuel Wright scored two more goals before halftime to give Howard a 4-1 lead.

Sam Rivera, who assisted on Wright’s second goal, scored the only point of the second half.

The Catamounts are coming off of a 2-0 win over the Dragons on Saturday, but PSC lost its regular goalie during a collision and was forced to go with its second-string keeper. Chris Orwig stopped eight of Howard’s 13 shots, and Garrett Petters had two saves in the win.

“Howard played a good game and was aggressive, but I felt that we came out flat,” Potomac State coach Ray Kiddy said. “I’m proud of the way we fought back, but we needed that effort all night. We would have liked to finish a little stronger this season, but we get to send the sophomore class out with 26 wins over the last two years.”

The Catamounts conclude the season at 11-7.
