KEYSER, W.Va. — Potomac State College men’s soccer team opens its 2014 campaign on Saturday on its new turf field on the Potomac State campus. The Catamounts have posted back to back, 15-win seasons and are looking to continue their winning ways when they host Lord Fairfax Community College at 2 p.m.

Potomac State has been the Region XX finalists the past two years and open this season ranked No. 8 nationally in NJCAA Division III. Head coach Ray Kiddy has posted a 48-16-4 record in his first four seasons at PSC.

Kiddy returns nine sophomores from last year’s 15-2-2 team. Brandon Lee will return after scoring 27 goals to finish third in the nation. Lee was an All-Region XX first-team selection in 2013.

Jerad Fike from Northern High School will spearhead the returning local players. Fike was an All-Region XX second-team player at the central midfield position.

Joining Lee and Fike as returning starters will be Rosemberth Lopez and Brandon Jones on defense along with Matt Tice (Northern) at midfield. Other local players who will start are Gabe Kiddy (Allegany), Ryan Mowrey (Hampshire), Pat Kimble (Mountain Ridge), Beck Sherrard (Northern) and Jacob Williams (Northern).

“Eleven of our 20 players are local players,” said Ray Kiddy. “We take great pride at Potomac State in our local soccer talent. They have provided great success for us in the past four years.”

The goalkeeping responsibilities will be shared by Chris Orwig from Buckhannon, W.Va., and Alec Sproule from Umina, Australia.

“We feel strong at the goalkeeping position with Chris and Alec sharing equal time,” Kiddy said.

Kiddy is assisted by Steve Amann and Tom Dawson, both in their third season at PSC.
