Catamounts fall to Frederick at the buzzer
Frederick’s K.D. Morgan sank a 3-pointer with less than a second remaining to give the Frederick Community College Cougars a 72-69 win over the Potomac State College Catamounts Monday evening.
Leading 69-65 with 2:00 remaining, PSC committed a turnover and missed a contested layup that allowed FCC to tied the game, 69-69, after scoring on each Catamount miscue. With 0.8 seconds on the clock, Morgan connected on a three that ended up being the difference.
Potomac State lead at the half 32-27 in a game that was tight throughout - neither time was able to gain an advantage on the scoreboard greater than five points.
Morgan was Frederick Community College’s leading scoring with with 24 points and Destinee Jernigan added 23 points in the victory. FCC (13-7) has won six of their last seven games.
Freshman Leah Hershberger led the way for the Cats with 13 points and three assists. A balanced Catamounts attack also included nine points and nine rebounds from Jenna McAtee. Kirsten Rayner contributed eight points and five rebounds.
With the loss, Potomac State (13-4) drops their second straight game and will host Butler Wednesday at 5 p.m.
