Macomb holds off Potomac State

McHENRY, MD — Potomac State got to within four points with seven minutes remaining, but Macomb (Mich.) pulled away in the final moments to win the McDonald’s Tip-Off Tournament by beating the Catamounts 68-56 at Garrett College.

The Monarchs led throughout the afternoon, never once falling behind. They had five players score at least 10 points, but divided the wealth equally as no one had more than 14. Tiara Malone had the 14, Billie Grant added 12, while Rashaun Hawkins, Carly D-Almeida and Jasmine Kimor all finished with 10.

Potomac State got a teamhigh 12 points from Heather Lesniowski, and nine points from Kiki Dudley. Kirsten Raynor scored eight points. Leah Hershberger had eight rebounds and five points, and Jenna McAtee earned All-Tournament honors with after getting six points, six boards and three steals to go with 16 points in the first game of the tournament on Friday.

Potomac State (1-1) plays at Southern Maryland on Wednesday.
