Potomac State repeats as WPCC champs

KEYSER, W.Va. — Leah Hershberger scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack as the Potomac State College Catamounts successfully defended their Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship Thursday evening with a 77-47 victory over Westmoreland County Community College.


Hershberger made six baskets with one three-pointer. Elizabeth Mills and Antwanye’ Parks both finished with 12 points and Lexi Carr had 11.


Parks pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double and she had five steals. Shannon Conradi and Mills each had seven rebounds and Kirsten Rayner six. Carr led the team with five assists and she had four steals.


Potomac State (14-2 overall, 7-0 WPCC) never trailed, began to pull away late in the first half and increased its lead in the second half. The Cats led 41-20 at halftime.


Westmoreland’s Julia Novotny scored a game-high 18 points on five field goals, including one three, and was 7 of 10 from the free-throw line. Brianna Crawford and Wendy Walsh each added 10 points.


Both teams made 11 foul shots out of 20 attempts, but Potomac State sank 32 baskets to Westmoreland’s 16.


Potomac State hosts Allegany College of Maryland tonight at 7 p.m.
