Potomac State rolls in home opener

KEYSER, W.V. — Alexis Carr led Potomac State in four different categories and the Catamounts carried a late run at the end of the first half into the second to win their home opener, 83-55, over the College of Southern Maryland Tuesday at Dana G. Lough Gymnasium.

Carr, a freshman from Keyser, WV, finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, six steals and five assists as PSC’s sparkplug. Kirsten Rayner scored 18 points and added five assists, and Leah Hershberger added seven rebounds and four assists to her 15 points. Miranda McNabb scored 11 points and dished out four assists.

The Catamounts had trouble converting their possessions into points early in the first half but went on a 12-2 run at the end of the half to take a 31-26 lead. They went on to outscore Southern 52-39 in the second half.

The Hawks were led by Ty Priest with 17 points and Ashley Pittman with 10.

Potomac State (3-1) takes to the road to play Harrisburg Community College on Thursday at 5 p.m.
