Women’s Basketball: Chesapeake ends PSC’s Season

LAPLATTA, MD — Dominique Haggins scored 20 points and the Chesapeake defense never let Potomac State find its rhythm during an 81-44 win over the Catamounts in the Region XX Tournament at the College of Southern Maryland.

The Skipjacks scored the first 12 points that helped them build a 34-17 lead by halftime. Potomac State maintained a much tighter spread for the first few minutes of the second half, but Chesapeake eventually broke loose and pulled away.

Haggins led the Jacks inscoring with the 20 points, all from the floor, while Carla Marse added 11 points. Daria Simmons finished with 10 points, with Lashay Williams and Donay Moguel both finishing with eight points.

The Cats got a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds from Leah Hershberger, and eight points and as many rebounds from Antwanye Parks.

“We could never build any momentum,” Potomac State’s Jim Walton said. “They got out to a great start and we couldn’t go on a run of our own as we fell behind in the first half. We held our own for the first eight minutes of the second half, but they went on a big run right after and pulled away.”

The loss closes the Cats’ season with a 17-5 record
