KEYSER, W.V. — Zihane West scored 16 points and Hagerstown Community College built a strong early lead and held on to it in the end at the free-throw line to notch a 69-58 win over Potomac State in women’s college basketball play Friday night at Dana Lough Gymnasium.

The Lady Hawks took advantage of a cold start by the Lady Catamounts to run out to a 21-10 lead and increased it to 35-23 at the half, and 54-40 entering the fourth. Potomac State, however, was able to shave that lead down to five points in the fourth quarter, before having to pressure the ball and foul in the final 3:00.

Hagerstown was able to answer at the line and methodically inched its lead back over double digits.

Carolyn Hill scored 13 points for Hagerstown, while Taylor Johnson and Lana Long both scored 11.

Potomac State was led by Katie Hoban with 16 points, Kenyatta Butler with 11, Courtney Davis with 10 and Alexis Carr with nine. Davis led Potomac State with eight rebounds, while Hoban had seven. Jessica Hakel had six assists and Hoban four steals.

Potomac State (5-2) will play Monday, 7 p.m., at Garrett College.
