Women’s Basketball: Garrett downs Lady Cats

KEYSER, W.V. — Garrett College used balanced scoring at the top and took advantage of an early lead to defeat Potomac State College Wednesday night, 71-59, in women’s junior college basketball action at Dana G. Lough Gymnasium.

Bria Coleman and Datoria Higgins both scored 16 points for the Lady Lakers, while Castina Johnson scored 14 and Bobbie McNabb nine.

Garrett took a 14-5 first-quarter lead and increased it to 33-19 at the half, leading by as many as 22 points. The Lakers maintained their 14-point lead entering the fourth, before Potomac State heated up and cut its deficit to six. However, Garrett finished the game strong to win by 12 points.

Garrett hit five three-point goals on the night, with McNabb hitting three and Mariah Stem dropping two.

Potomac State was led by Treashur Johnson with 13 points. Jassica Hakel scored 11 for the Lady Catamounts and Elizabeth Mills 10. Mills also led PSC with eight rebounds, and Katie Hoban had six.

Potomac State (12-6) will play Friday, 6 p.m., at Chesapeake.
