Hines leads Potomac State Lady Cats to win

Defense dominates Southern Maryland in Cats’ 71-41 win

LaPLATA, MD — Ashley Hines was prolific, scoring 28 points for Potomac State College in its 71-41 women’s college basketball win over the College of Southern Maryland Tuesday evening in La Plata.

Potomac State dominated first half play, especially on defense, stifling Southern Maryland to 11 points.

Southern Maryland was able to pull within 10 after Potomac State was lethargic to start the second half. Eventually the Lady Cats pulled away to secure a comfortable 30-point victory.

Hines also grabbed 13 rebounds, had three steals and two blocks. Ruth Wheeler added 11 points, Brandie Robertson and Alexis Steele had nine and Ali St. Van chipped in eight for Potomac State.

Teshaun Greene led Southern Maryland with 12 points and Bria Jones scored 10.

Potomac State (4-2) will play Frederick Community College in the Charm City Classic in Baltimore Friday at 4 p.m.

Tuesday’s game against Allegany College of Maryland was postponed and has been rescheduled for January 24, 7 p.m., at Potomac State.
