Women's Lacrosse: Lady Catamounts come up just short against Hawks

The Catamounts of Potomac State College Women’s Lacrosse (0-2) came up hundredths of a second short of forcing overtime this past Saturday, losing on the road to the College of Southern Maryland (1-0) 13-12. Down 10-6 at half, the Lady Catamounts staged a furious comeback, putting the ball in the back of the net as the final horn sounded, only to have the goal not allowed by the referees, stating the ball did not cross the goal line in time.

“The ladies showed a lot of character coming back, but that’s life,” stated PSC Head Coach Josh Seese, “we move forward by controlling what we control and work on what we could have done better to prevent a last second situation in the first place.”

The Lady Catamounts were once again balanced offensively, led by 3 goals and 1 assist from Quincy Oram (Fr., Frederick, MD.). Hannah Bennett (Fr., Morgantown, WV.) also recorded 4 points with 2 goals and 2 assists to go along with 3 draw controls. Lindsey Chamberlain (So., Baltimore, MD.) recorded 2 goals and an assist with her team-high 8 draw controls. Midfielder Dusti McClemens (So., Somerset, PA.) also scored, recording her first goal of the season. Two Catamounts reached milestones Saturday, as Sophomores Kayla Littleton (Cambridge, MD.) tallied 1 goal and Savannah Chamberlain (Balitmore, MD.) a hat trick, putting both over the 50 point mark for their careers!

The Catamount defense also had a strong second half, led by Whitney Ogle (So., Peterstown, WV.) with 4 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers while playing with a leg injury. Kia Ross (So., Washington, DC.) started in cage for the Catamounts, recorded 4 saves with 10 goals against in 30 minutes of action. She was replaced by Betsy Maltez (So., Laurel, MD.) in the second half who finished with 6 saves and 3 goals against.

The much improved Lady Catamounts return to action Wednesday, March 9th as they travel to Anne Arundel Community College to battle Coach Jim Griffiths’ Riverhawks in what will be their season opener. Draw time is set for 5:00 pm on the campus of AACC.
