Lady Cats fall to Montgomery 4-1

KEYSER, W.V. — Rachel Anderson and Tamara Castillo each scored two goals to lead Montgomery College over Potomac State College 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Keyser High School’s Tornado Alley.

The bulk of the scoring came in the second half. Montgomery, leading 1-0 at halftime on Castillo’s unassisted goal at 43:30, took a 2-0 lead at 47:21 on Anderson’s first goal.

Potomac State pulled to within one on a Kirsten Rayner penalty kick at 47:53.

Montgomery then scored the next two goals on a Castillo penalty kick at 65:39 and Anderson’s second goal at 76:07.

The Knights dominated in shots, 13-3, and had two more corner kicks, 4-2.

Potomac State’s Kat Ziebarth and Alana Nappi combined for nine saves with Nappi making five. Montgomery’s Ashley Latter had two stops.

The Catamounts (7-5) get a rematch against Montgomery on Tuesday in the first round of the Region XX Championship.
