Women’s Soccer: Potomac State drops first of year

NORTH EAST, Pa. — Harley Boyd scored an unassisted goal five minutes into the second overtime and Mercyhurst North East handed Potomac State its first loss, 3-2 in college women’s soccer on Saturday.

Potomac State (6-1) never led but tied it 2-2 and forced overtime on an unassisted goal by Hannah Rezutek in the 81st minute.

Mercyhurst (6-1-1) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Megan McKinney midway through the first half. Haley

Schwindt got the assist.

Potomac State tied it when Sarah Allman scored on a feed from Kirsten Rayner in the 66th minute.

Emily Griffith’s unassisted goal put Mercyhurst back on top, 2-1, before Rezutek’s overtime-forcing goal.

Potomac State led in shots 18-16 and both teams had three corner kicks. Alana Nappi had eight saves and Brooke Sink six in splitting time in goal for the Catamounts. Samantha Sines was cited for outstanding defensive play for Potomac State.
