Women’s Soccer: Potomac State falls 1-0 at Region XX

ARNOLD, MD — Rebecca Head scored unassisted at 83:40 of the game to lift Oxford College of Emory University, the No. 1 team in the country, to a 1-0 win over Potomac State College in the quarterfinals of the Region XX quarterfinals Friday afternoon at Anne Arundel Community College.

Head’s goal brought an end to a hard-fought battle and to the Potomac State season as well, the Lady Catamounts finishing the year at 8-3.

“Oxford is the No. 1 team in the country,” said Potomac State head coach Mark Sprouse, “so I’m pretty proud of our players for taking them down to the wire. Everybody hates to lose, but taking the No. 1 team in the country down to the last six, seven minutes ... I’d rather it happen that way instead of the alternative. I’m pretty proud of them.”

Potomac State was outshot, 9-3, and out-cornered, 8-0. Brooke Snyder had seven saves in goals for Potomac State and Kristen Brinkley one. Aria Zarceka had three for Oxford.
