Potomac State speeds past Lord Fairfax 7-1
KEYSER, W.Va. — Kaitlyn Hoover and Kelly O’Brien both scored a pair of goals to lead the Potomac State College women’s soccer team to a 7-1 win over Lord Fairfax Wednesday at Stayman Field as the Lady Catamounts established a two-year record for the most wins by a sophomore class.
The victory gives Potomac State a 10-3 record for the season and a combined 21 victories the past two seasons to establish the mark at 21. The Cats will have a chance to add to that mark when the Region XX semifinals take place Friday, Oct. 28 at Howard Community College.
After Lord Fairfax took a 1-0 lead, Hoover scored unassisted at 21:09 of the first half to tie the score for Potomac State. Sadey Crooks then followed unassisted at 28:06 to give the Cats the lead for good.
Hoover then scored her second goal at 30:21 on an assist by Lauren Filer to make it 3-1, which was followed by two goals by O’Brien, unassisted at 32:23, then assisted at 37:00 by Megan Tomkinson.
In the second half, Julia Ludwick scored at 42:00 on an assist by O’Brien and then Emily Livingston scored the final goal at 22:36 on an assist by Kasha Smith.
Potomac State outshot Lord Fairfax, 12-2, and held an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Smith had a save in goal for Potomac State while the Lord Fairfax keeper saved six.
