Chambers, Wright key Potomac State's sweep over Frederick
FREDERICK, MD — Brittany Chambers belted a three-run homer in the ninth inning to win a 12-10 slugfest in the opener, and Kendra Hardesty and Jody Shipman combined on a two-hitter in the second as Potomac State swept Frederick, 12-10 and 10-1, in college softball on Sunday.
The first game featured 22 runs and 40 hits, with Potomac State holding the upper hand in both.
Potomac State had 22 hits, with Morgan Wright the leader, going 5 for 6 with a two-run homer, double and three singles.
Chambers homered and singled, Allie Lockhart hit a double and three singles, Taylor Rice tripled, doubled and singled, Savannah Hose doubled and singled twice and Taylor Haggerty had three singles.
After Frederick tied the game 8-8 with a run in the seventh and again 9-9 with a run in the eighth, Potomac State (14-2) won it with a three-run ninth. Haggerty walked and Erica Doyle singled before Chambers homered with out out to make it 12-9.
Frederick (8-10) had 18 hits, all singles. Ashley O’Brien, Emily Valin and Cady Baer had three each.
The second game was shortened to five innings by the eight-run rule.
Hose doubled and singled twice and Lockhart and Rice had two singles for Potomac State, which had 12 hits.
Hardesty and Shipman teamed for the two-hitter with two strikeouts.
The Catamounts host Beaver County for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
