Shayna Vetter hurls one-hitter in opener, drives in four runs off four hits in night cap

KEYSER, W.Va. — Shayna Vetter tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener and homered, had four hits and drove in four runs in the night cap as Potomac State overpowered CCAC-South 12-0 and 17-1 in a Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

Vetter allowed only one baserunner in the first game. That was the second batter of the game who singled, then was promptly thrown out trying to steal second. She had four strikeouts.

Vetter had seven hits for the day, as she had three singles and three RBIs in the first game. Sam Hoban belted a three-run homer, doubled and singled, and Whitley Mongan hit a solo homer, a double and a single.

The Catamounts took control of the second game quickly with a 12-run second inning. Hoban, a former standout at Keyser High, had two hits in the big inning, an RBI double and a three-run triple.

Hoban finished 4 for 4 with a triple, double, two singles and four RBIs, while Vetter hit a three-run homer and an RBI single. Potomac State outhit South 13-2 in the second game.

Hoban struck out five in three scoreless innings for the win. Mariah Martin fanned four over the final two innings.

Potomac State (5-7) will host Westmoreland on Saturday at noon.
