Softball: Catamounts split pair at Catonsville

CATONSVILLE, MD — Chelsea Shepherd, Beth Cook and Ruby Fridley had run-scoring hits during a five-run eighth inning to lift Potomac State to a 6-1 win over Catonsville for a split of their doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Tied 1-1 through seven innings, Shepherd and Cook belted two-run doubles and Fridley had an RBI single in the eighth for the Catamounts (21-8).

Shayna Vetter, who allowed a run in the first inning, tossed seven consecutive scoreless innings for a complete-game win. She scattered nine hits, walked three and struck out three.

Shepherd was the game’s top hitter with a double and two singles. Whitley Mongan singled twice.

Catonsville (22-14) won the opener 2-0 behind a two-hitter by Kailyn Cohen.

Olivia Ravadge supplied all the offense with a two-run homer in the third inning. Shepherd tripled and Hali Jarrell doubled to account for the Potomac State hits.

Cohen walked one and struck out two in getting the win. Danica Rogers allowed only five hits and struck out three for Potomac State.

The Catamounts play again Thursday at Frederick at 3 p.m.
