Softball: Catamounts split pair with Cecil

KEYSER, W.Va. — Three Potomac State players belted home runs as part of a 14-hit attack that propelled the Catamounts to a five-inning 11-1 victory over Cecil in the first game of a Sunday doubleheader.

The Seahawks would earn a split of the twin bill with a three-run sixth for a 3-1 win in the second game.

In the opener, Hali Jarrell’s fifth-inning three-run home run capped a four-run inning that also ended the game due to the 10-run rule.

Sam Hoban had a two-run home run and singled for three RBIs and Beth Cook belted a two-run shot in the fourth. She also had two base hits. Shayna Vetter had two doubles and an RBI.

For Cecil, Megan Thompson and Becca Ashman each had two base hits.

The Catamounts’ Mariah Martin scattered six hits in picking up the victory.

In the second game, Thompson held Potomac State to only four hits with seven strikeouts while Ashman doubled and singled to lead the Seahawks eight-hit performance.
