Softball: Cats win another WPCC title

WEST MIFFLIN, PA. — Potomac State rolled to its eighth-straight Western Pennsylvania Collegiate

Conference championship by posting an undefeated league record after sweeping CCAC-South Sunday afternoon.

The Catamounts scored four times in the top of the sixth inning to grab a 9-5 win in the opener and then scored twice in the top of the eighth to squeak out a 10-8 win that finished the sweep and made PSC a perfect 14-0 in the WPCC.

Whitley Mongan hit a solo home run and slapped three singles to collect four of the Cats’ 11 hits in the early game. Sam Hoban and Lexi Earle each hit a double and a single.

Rachel Battle led South with a double and a single.

Beth Cook and Chelsea Shepherd drove in runs in the top of the eighth to led Potomac State to the second win. Shepherd had two singles, while Shayna Vetter added a double and a single.

Ruby Fridley singled two times.

Kayla Pricket led South by hitting a triple and a single.

The Catamounts (20-7) play at Catonsville Tuesday at 3 p.m.
