Softball: Illinois Central shuts out PSC; ends season at 32-9

CLINTON, Miss — Eighth-seeded Illinois Central received a four-hit, complete-game shutout from starter Cassie Shaw to bring the season to a conclusion for No. 16 Potomac State, 4-0, in the elimination round of the NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship Thursday at Traceway Park in Clinton, Mississippi.

Shaw gave up four singles, struck out six and walked only one in putting the clamps on another outstanding season by the Catamounts, who finish the year at 32-9 and playing in the National Championships for the second straight season. On Wednesday, the Cats fell to top-seeded and nine-time national champion Phoenix College, 10-2.

Illinois Central scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second, led by Joy Treasure with an RBI double, Megan Fox with two singles and an RBI, and Allison Haesele with a double.

Chelsea Shepherd had two singles for Potomac State, while Kendall Keplinger and Cheyenne Earle both singled. Danica Rogers pitched a complete game for the Cats, striking out two, walking three and surrendering six hits.
