Softball: Basye walk off home run downs Corning

KEYSER, W.V. — Morgan Basye hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to propel Potomac State to a 10-7 win in the opener and Beth Cook tossed a four-hit shutout in the second game as Potomac State swept Corning Community College (New York) Wednesday at Potomac State.

The Catamounts scored seven runs over the final three innings and Basye went deep with two runners on during a 10-7 win, and Josie Clark supported Cook with four RBIS during an 8-0 win that finished the Red Barons off.

Basye’s home run was her only hit, but the Cats got a double, triple, three RBIs and two runs from Chelsea Shepherd. Cook and Abby Doyka had two singles and two runs scored each.

Corning got three singles with two runs scored, and Kathleen McAlinn had two singles and two more runs batted in.

Clark had four RBIs on a three-run home run, a double and a single, and Cook added two singles to her five strikeouts in five innings on the mound. Basye added two singles.

Haley Williamson had a double for Corning.

Potomac State improves to 12-4 and plays a doubleheader on Sunday, 1 p.m., at Chesapeake.
