Softball: Potomac State rolls over Allegany

CUMBERLAND — Carly Nixon hit three home runs and had a total of eight hits Tuesday afternoon as the Potomac State Catamounts thrashed Allegany College of Maryland 27-2 and 17-7 in a doubleheader at Cavanaugh Field.

Nixon homered, doubled and singled as part of the Cats 27-2 win in the first half and then had two home runs and three singles as PSC finished the sweep with a 17-7 win.

Potomac State got 19 hits and used a 12-run inning to take care of the Trojans in the early outing. Beth Cook and Tina Collins had two singles apiece, and Kendall Keplinger, Abby Doyka, Ruby Fridley and Morgan Basye all had two singles. Collins also homered in the opener.

Jasmine Benson singled in both of Allegany College’s runs in the first inning.

Nixon and Keplinger had two home runs each in the late game, with Cook supplying four more singles. Alyssa Jones and Fridley both hit two more singles.

Cheyanne Rice and Kiya Wilhelm homered for the Trojans, who fall to 5-19 and host Dundalk on Sunday.
