Softball: Potomac State splits with Lincoln

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Potomac State used a strong pitching performance by Makenah Harrington in the opening game of the doubleheader, but was unable to string together its seven hits in the second as the Catamounts split with Lincoln College on Wednesday afternoon.

Harrington allowed four hits in the first game, three of which came in Lincoln’s three-run first inning, but Potomac State had a four- and three-run outburst in the third and fifth innings to escape with an 8-3 victory.

Megan Newcomb finished with a home run, single, a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Kadi Cosgrove scored three times and doubled, Carly Nixon doubled and Morgan Bayse had the Catamounts’ fifth hit with a single.

Harrington only struck out a pair of batters, but her performance in the circle coupled with four errors by Lincoln was enough for the Catamounts.

Potomac State racked up seven hits in the second game, but was shut out as it fell, 5-0.

For Lincoln, Brighton Robbins and Kalliegh Rogers had a double and a single each.

Cosgrove had the only extra-base hit — a double — for the Catamounts. Newcomb, Nixon, Katlynn Tichnell, Kayla Stickley, Sierra Farris and Jordyn Munson all ripped a single.

Potomac State (3-3) will finish play in Myrtle Beach today in a doubleheader against Lackawanna beginning at 11 a.m. The second game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
