Potomac State clinches conference crown

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Lindsay Twigg led Potomac State from the plate and on the mound in a conference-clinching split of a doubleheader with Westmoreland College.  Twigg cracked a two-run home run in the fifth inning to life Potomac State to a 3-2 win over Westmoreland for a split of thir softball doubleheader and gave the Catamounts the regular season championship of Western Maryland Collegiate Conference.


Twigg's homer came with one out in the fifth inning and snapped a 1-1 tie.  Twigg on the mound scattered four hits, with four being singles, and walked two in getting the victory.  Brittany Wright added three hits, including a double, and drove in the first run, while Morgan Mitchell ripped two doubles for Potomac State.


The Catamounts finished the regualr season with a 17-9 record and won the conference with a 7-1 record. Potomac State will be the top seed in the conference tournament, which begins at Westmoreland on April 18.


Westmoreland won the opening contest, 9-2.


Nikki Lindberg, who scattered four hits and fanned 12 for the win, aided her cause at the plate with a double and single.  Jessica Lint  had two doubles and a single. Wright and Twigg doubled for the Cats. Ashley  Metcalfe singled twice.
