Catamounts win opener 3-1, erupt for 23 runs in second game
KEYSER, W.V. — Erin McGee hit a grand slam and earned the decision as Potomac State College took an explosive second game 23-10 to sweep a doubleheader from Frederick Community College Tuesday on the Catamounts’ diamond.
In the season opener for the Catamounts, Tori Thompson tossed a complete game and hit a solo home run during a 3-1 win over the Cougars.
The late game saw the Cats open by scoring 19 runs in the first inning. McGee, a Bishop Walsh graduate, hit a grand slam during the inning while Erica Doyle connected for a three-run shot and Lindsey Stidom went deep with a runner on as part of the monster inning.
Doyle would finish with five runs batted in during the inning by adding a two-run single. Jasmine Morgan, another former Falcon, also came through with a two-run single in the first.
Emily Roberson hit a three-run blast in the third inning, Morgan added another single and two more RBIs, and Savannah Hose, also from Frankfort, hit two doubles.
Morgan and Doyle joined Thompson with hits in the opener, as Morgan had a double and a single with an RBI, and Doyle had a RBI single in the sixth.
The Cats (2-0) will play today, 3 p.m., against CCAC-South.
