Softball: Potomac State splits pair with Rappahannock

WARSAW, Va. — Potomac State rolled to a 14-3 victory in the first game but lost for the first time this season, 1-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Rappahannock on Saturday.

Potomac State overwhelmed from the start of the first game, with three runs in the top of the first, five in the second and one more in the top of the third before Rappahannock got on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Rappahannock scored two more in the bottom of the fourth but the Lady Catamounts added a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth before the game was called.

Tori Thompson allowed three runs, scattered seven hits and struck out six. Jasmine Morgan went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Erica Doyle had three hits and an RBI for Potomac State.

Taylor Rice of Potomac State and Kaitlyn Danlandingham of Rappahannock squared off in a pitching duel in the second game.

Neither pitcher allowed a run until Mara Firth hit a single in the bottom of the sixth to drive in the go-ahead run for Rappahannock.

Potomac State left 10 runners on base as Danlandingham allowed just six hits. She helped her own cause with two singles.
