Softball: Potomac State routs CCAC-South twice

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Potomac State College combined to score 50 runs and belted out 38 hits to lead a dominating sweep of CCAC-South Wednesday on a cold, breezy and snowy day in western Pennsylvania.

The Catamounts (11-7, 4-0 Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference) left no doubt in either game, scoring 14 runs in the top of the first inning of the 27-3 first-game victory and then 13 in the first of the 23-5 second-game win.

South was held to three hits in the first game and five in the second.

In the 14-run inning of the first game, PSC batted around twice and was two batters into the third time around before South got the Catamounts out of the inning. Erica Doyle had a three-run triple for the only big hit of the inning.

Starting pitcher Torre Thompson led with six hits including two doubles and four RBIs. Savannah Hose had three hits with a double, Emily Robertson drove in four runs with two doubles and a single and Jasmine Morgan had three base hits.

In the second game, winning pitcher Robertson had three RBIs off of three singles. Doyle also had three hits and Erin McGee drove in three runs off of two hits with one being a double.

Potomac State hosts Cecil for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday. Saturday’s scheduled game with Butler has been cancelled due to Butler not fielding a team this season.
