Thompson’s no-hitter in first game, grand slam in second leads Lady Cats

Keyser, WV- Tori Thompson hit a grand slam and drove in nine runs on the day to lead Potomac State to 19-1 and 9-7 wins over Beaver County in a  Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Potomac State on Wednesday.

Thompson was the starting pitcher in the first game, throwing a no-hitter. Potomac State scored seven runs in the second and followed that with 12 runs over the next two innings. Beaver County scored an unearned run in the fourth to avoid the shutout.

Thompson struck out seven and walked just two. Jasmine Morgan hit a two-run home run and added two singles, Taylor Rice had four hits, Savannah Hose hit two doubles and drove in three.

In game two, Thompson’s first inning grand slam helped Potomac State take a 5-0 lead. Beaver County responded with six runs in the second with home runs from Savannah Grossetti and Tiffany Shugart. Thompson hit a two RBI single in the third to put Potomac State back on top. Beaver scored again in the fifth to make it a one-run game but Potomac State added a little insurance with another run in the sixth to cap off a 9-7 win.

Thompson relieved Taylor Rice in the third to strike out 11 more batters. Morgan added two more hits, Rice hit two singles and Courtney Dolly chipped in two singles.

Potomac State is 8-0 in the WPCC and 15-9 overall, they host Butler County on Sunday at 1 p.m.
