Potomac State sweeps Allegany; set for WPCC Tourney

KEYSER, W.V. — Morgan Mongold and Kaitlyn Semler had 10 kills and Peyton Smith dished out 36 assists to lead Potomac State to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-19 sweep of Allegany Thursday evening.
Mongold also had nine service points and three aces for Potomac State (18-6). Smith’s sets continued to be a key to the Catamounts offense, which also got nine kills from Aimee Conley, seven kills from Stephanie Cornachia and six kills from Michaela Osborne.
Julia Morikawa added 11 service points, three aces and 18 digs. Alyssia Whitacre had three aces and nine digs.
Potomac State tied for first place in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference, but lost a tie-breaker with Butler and will be the No. 2 seed in Saturday’s tournament at Westmoreland. Potomac State will play Westmoreland in an 11 a.m. semifinal, and Butler plays the Beaver/Penn Highlands winner. The semifinal winners play for the tournament championship on Saturday at 1 p.m.
