Potomac State captures third straight WPCC Championship

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — Potomac State won its third Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference title in a row and fifth in the last six years in a fierce, 24-26, 27-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-11 final against Butler at Westmoreland on Saturday.

The Catamounts rallied after trailing 11-8 in the final game, led by four straight service points from Peyton Smith.

Smith finished with 16 points, 59 assists and 21 digs. Michaela Osbourne had a staggering seven blocks. Offensive stalwarts Morgan Mongold and Aimee Conley amassed 24 points, 29 kills and 39 digs. Kaitlyn Semler and Stephanie Cornachia combined for 23 kills. Julia Morikawa had 35 digs and Alyssa Whitacre 24.

Conley, Mongold, Osbourne and Smith were all named to the all-conference team.

Potomac State (20-6) goes to Northern Virginia for their penultimate regular season match Tuesday at 7 p.m.
