Volleyball: PSC opens 2013 with win over Beaver
MONACA, Pa.--The Potomac State College Women's Volleyball team won their opening match of the season at Beaver Community College on Wednesday, 25-23, 25-12, 25-10. Freshman standout Stephanie Cornachia debuted with nine points and eight kills. Morgan Mongold had nine points, three on aces, seven kills, and eight digs. Alyssia Whitacre scored eight points, five on aces, and added 14 digs.
Kaitlyn Semler (nine points, nine digs), Julia Moriakawa (eight points, three aces), Peyton Smith (23 assists) and Aimee Conley (five kills) were also standouts.
"We had a rough start, but once the girls got comfortable and settled down, things started to roll along," said PSC coach Martha Ganoe via e-mail. "Peyton Smith did a good job of mixing up the offense and getting several players involved, and we had some very tough serving tonight."
Potomac State (1-0) is idle until September 9, when they play at Allegany College of Maryland at 7 p.m.
