Volleyball: Catamounts win conference title

BUTLER, Pa. — Morgan Mongold had two key games and was one of four Potomac State players to be named to the all-conference team as the Catamounts beat Westmoreland County and Butler to win the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference volleyball championship Saturday afternoon. Mongold, Shakayla Ganoe, Stephanie Cornachia and Erin Amoruso were named to the all-conference team, and Potomac State’s Martha Ganoe was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.

In the semifinals, the Catamounts swept Westmoreland 25-10, 25-10 and 25-7. Mongold finished with 13 service points, 11 kills and seven digs and Kyleigh Stottlemyer had 14 kills, 11 points and six digs for Potomac State. Ganoe finished with 35 assists, 12 points and six aces, Amoruso added 16 digs and seven points, Cornachia had six kills, Katie Tasker three kills and Autumn Dishman 16 digs.

In the finals, PSC swept Butler Community College 25-13, 25-23 and 25-11. Mongold continued her big day and finished with 25 digs, 16 kills, 15 points and three aces. Stottlemyer had 15 digs and 10 kills, Ganoe 33 assists and nine digs, Amoruso 18 digs and four kills, Cornachia 13 points and three aces, Dishman 13 digs and Tasker three kills.

Potomac State, (19-9) travels to Allegany College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
