Volleyball: PSC falls to Frederick in Region XX Championship

HAGERSTOWN — Tied after the first two games, Potomac State dropped the final two to the Frederick Cougars as the Catamounts had their season end during a four-game loss in the Region XX championship Sunday at Hagerstown Community College.

Frederick began the final with a 25-23 win, but the Cats clawed back and even things up with a 28-26 win. The Cougars were able to take the final two games 25-21 and earn a spot in the national tournament.

Autumn Dishman, Shakayla Ganoe and Shayla Hillian earned All-Region XX Tournament recognition on the strength of Dishman’s 22 digs, 13 points and two aces, and Ganoe’s 37 assists, 14 digs, three blocks and an assist. Hillian had a double-double of 14 kills, 13 digs and two blocks.

PSC also got 16 digs and eight kills from Sarah Lowery, 12 kills from Anya Murray and eight digs and seven kills from Kyle Stottlemyer.

The Catamounts finish the season at 19-5. Since Martha Ganoe became the Potomac State head coach in 2008, it is only the second time that the Catamounts failed to reach 20 wins, though the 24 total games was the fewest PSC has played.
