Potomac State volleyball team drops tough season opener.

BEAVER, Pa. - The Potomac State College volleyball team, under the guidance of new head coach Shawn White, opened the 2007 season with a heartbreaking loss to the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) on Wednesday evening at Beaver.

The Lady Catamounts led CCBC, which is the top team in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference, two sets to one before dropping the final two sets and the match.

"We had them on the ropes. We were up 2-1," said White. "They came back on us, but I'm happy with the way we played."

CCBC won the first set, 30-19, before Potomac State came back to win the next two sets, 30-17 and 30-22.

But CCBC snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, winning the fourth set, 30-22, before taking the fifth and deciding set, 18-16.

Julianna Buckley led the Lady Catamounts in both hitting and kills, while Megan Webb was tops in assists and Kelsey Johnson led the defense.

Potomac State (0-1) will return to action Monday, Sept. 10, when it opens its home schedule against Westmoreland Community College at 6 p.m
