Ganoe likes progress as PSC Volleyball sweeps past Penn Highlands

Keyser, WV- Potomac State Head Coach Martha Ganoe may just have a good thing going. Once again, she watched as her Catamounts Volleyball team cruised past an opponent, sweeping Penn Highlands in three straight games Wednesday night at the Lough Gymnasium. PSC won 25-10, 25-14, 25-7.

" The girls are beginning to come together as a team and have shown a tremendous improvement over the last few matches. We have had a couple of bumps in the road, but they have managed to remain calm and consistent throughout."

Ganoe know her squad has depth this season. How deep? Check out these top performers from Wednesday night: Amber Wesley 10 points 10 kills, Shayla Bartles 11 points 4 aces 7 Kills 7 digs, Samantha Deter 10 points 9 digs, Taylor Douthitt 9 points 5 assist 5 digs, Katie Bush 9 kills 3 blocks, Taylor Oates 22 assists.

Ganoe shares her thoughts on her the distribution of credit it takes to be successful:

"Two days prior to our first match Samantha Deter had to step into the role of our libero and has done an excellent job. Her passing on service, receive and defense has aided in the successes we have had so far."

"Katie Bush and Amber Wesley are strong offensive players for us and have managed to provide opportunities for us to score. I feel that as the season progresses we are going to see a lot more offense from these two athletes."

"Shayla Bartles is our scoring machine she has already accumulated 17 aces on the season and has scored 54 points. Shayla has also provided the leadership on the court that this team has needed."

"Taylor Douthitt has been very steady and reliable for us across all aspects of the game. She can set, hit, pass and play defense, she fills her role well and also does a good job of leading on the court."

"Taylor Oates has been the quarterback of this team she has done an excellent job leading our offense and getting the ball to our big hitters. She has also provided us with excellent defense and has given us opportunities to convert points off of her defensive plays."

"Cindy Elifrtiz has done an excellent job stepping in as a middle for us.  Cindy is not truly a middle player, but has managed to learn the position and is has really improved her blocking abilities."

"New to our team this week is Marjani Saunders.  Marjani has no volleyball experience but is very athletic, jumps well and is a quick learner.  I look for big things from Marjani before the end of the season.  I look for her to become and offensive threat and a big blocker for us."

"Emily Funkhouser has been injured since the start of the season, we are looking forward to her stepping back on the court.  Emily is one of four WV AAA State Champions playing for us this year. She brings a lot of experience and versatility to the team and is capable of playing any position on the court.   I am fortunate to have girls who are accustomed to winning."

While still early in the season, Potomac State is off to a hot start at 5-1. This weekend they head to a tough tournament at the College of Southern Maryland this Friday and Saturday. The Lady Cats will be facing Catawba Community College, Lenoir Community College, Cape Fear Community College, and Pitt Community College.

"We are very excited about the season and hope to capture our 3rd straight WPCC Conference title this year."
