Welcome Weekend

Saturday, August 16 – Sunday, August 17, 2014

Welcome Weekend is Potomac State College's way of welcoming new and returning students to campus. By participating, you will socialize with other students and you will get to know some of the faculty and staff who will be your guides to academic and personal success.

The activities and events are open to all students, whether you commute from home or reside in one of the College's residence halls.

Saturday, August 16th

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.           Student Services Day --- Church-McKee Auditorium

--Course registration, bill payment, financial aid, meal plans, Catamount I.D. Cards, Mountie Bounty registration, parking permits. The RN from the Health Center will be available in the Student Health Center. (Many of these services can be taken care of online through your MIX e-mail account. You only need to stop by if necessary.)

8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.           Residence Hall Check-in for First-year Students Only

--Specific details for check-in will be sent out at a later date. Check your mail and MIX e-mail regularly for updates. (Students must register for courses and pay bills prior to checking-in to residence halls; students residing in the residence halls must have a Catamount I.D. Card to check into the building.)

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.           Placement Tests ---Academic Success Center. Lower Level of Library

--Check with Enrollment Services to see if placement testing is necessary.

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m .         Family Welcome Picnic--- on the Quad (There is no charge for lunch.)

2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.          Keyser Shopping Shuttle

--Shuttle service will run every half hour (approximate) from in front of University Place

3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.          Walk-in Computer Help --- Library

-- Get help with MyID, MIX Account, Wireless Network, Library Databases, AlcoholEdu, etc.

4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.          Student Dinner in the Potomac Commons in University Place .

--Students with active meal plans gain access with their Catamount I.D. Card. Anyone who does not have a meal plan can pay the posted door price by cash, check, Dining Dollars, or credit card.

7:00 p.m.                            Res Hall Floor Meetings/Scavenger Hunt

(Required for ALL 1st Year Residence Hall Students)

9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.        DBTG Garden Party---Student Union

---Games, food and other fun stuff—all students invited to attend.

Sunday, August 17th

10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.         Brunch in the Potomac Commons in University Place

--Students with active meal plans gain access with their Catamount I.D. Card. Anyone who does not have a meal plan can pay the posted door price by cash, check, Dining Dollars, or credit card.

12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.        Residence Hall Check-in for Returning Students

1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.          Self-Guided Tours of Academic Buildings--- Mary F. Shipper Library

---Pick up maps and find out where your classes are going to be held.

3:00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m.          Walk-in Computer Help--- Library

7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.          International Student Meeting---UP Heritage Room

--- International students are encouraged to attend.

Wednesday, August 20th

Noon – 1:30 p.m.                Commuter Pizza Social with Campus Services Information Tables --- The Loft

3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.          Keyser Shopping Shuttle

---Shuttle service will run every half hour (approximate) from in front of University Place

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.          Second Annual Skills Challenge --- Lough Gymnasium

---Includes 3 pt. basketball, fast pitch, etc. Open to all students.

9:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.        Late Night Program --- University Place Commons    

---Shuttles will transport students from the University Place porch to and from Rainbow Lanes.

Thursday, August 21st

4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.          Welcome Picnic --- on the Quad (PSC Commons and Rapids Closed)

--- Great time to meet professors outside the classroom. Games, music, food and fun.

5:00 p.m.                             2nd Annual Faculty/Staff vs Student Volleyball Game --- on the Quad

7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.          Keyser Shopping Shuttle

9:00 p.m.                             Ballistic Bowling---Rainbow Lanes in Keyser
