Campus Connection-  Welcome Weekend

Saturday, August 16 – Sunday, August 17, 2014

Welcome Weekend is Potomac State College's way of welcoming and orienting new and returning students to campus. By participating, you will socialize with other students and you will get to know some of the faculty and staff who will be your guides to academic and personal success.

The activities and events are open to all students, whether you commute from home or reside in one of the College's residence halls.  This schedule may change therefore you should check it on-line at potomacstatecollege.edu.

Saturday, August 16th

8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.          Student Services Day--- Church-McKee Auditorium

--Course registration, bill payment, financial aid, meal plans, Catamount I.D. Cards, Mountie Bounty registration, parking permits. (Many of these services can be taken care of online through your MIX e-mail account. You only need to stop by if necessary.)

8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.          Residence Hall Check-in for First-year Students Only

--Specific details for check-in will be sent out at a later date. Check your mail and MIX e-mail regularly for updates. (Students must register for courses and pay bills prior to checking-in to residence halls; students residing in the residence halls must have a Catamount I.D. Card to check into the building.)

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.          Placement Tests ---Academic Success Center

--Check with Enrollment Services to see if placement testing is necessary.

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.        Family Welcome Picnic--- on the Quad (There is no charge for lunch.)

1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.           Keyser Shopping Shuttle

--Shuttle service will run every half hour (approximate) from in front of University Place

1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.         Crash Course 101: Student and Parent Orientation---University Place Theater

3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.         Health Center Open House ---Health Center

3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.         Walk-In Computer Help --- Library

-- Get help with MyID, MIX Account, Wireless Network, Library Databases, AlcoholEdu, etc.

4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.          Student Dinner in the Potomac Commons in University Place .

--Students with active meal plans gain access with their Catamount I.D. Card.  Anyone who does not have a meal plan can pay the posted door price by cash, check, Dining Dollars, or credit card.

7:00 p.m.                               Res Hall Floor Meetings/Scavenger Hunt

(Required for ALL 1st Year Residence Hall Students)

9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.       DBTG Union Takeover---Student Union

---Games, food and other fun stuff—All students invited to attend.

9:00 p.m.                               Movie Night ---Quad

*** IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR FRESHMAN AND TRANSFER STUDENTS—Hopefully, you have completed Part 1 of the AlcoholEdu online course, but if you haven’t you have until August 29th to complete it.   You must pass the Part 1 exam with a score of 75% or higher.  Be sure to check your MIX e-mail for directions on completing Part 2 of the course. Part 2 of the course must be completed by October 17, 2014.  You will be assessed a fifty dollar ($50) fine to your Student Account if you do not complete Part 1 and Part 2 by October 17, 2014. ***

Sunday, August 17th

10:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.        Brunch in the Potomac Commons in University Place

--Students with active meal plans gain access with their Catamount I.D. Card.  Anyone who does not have a meal plan can pay the posted door price by cash, check, Dining Dollars, or credit card.

12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.        Residence Hall Check-in for Returning Students

--- Specific details for check-in will be sent out at a later date. Check your mail and MIX e-mail regularly for updates. (Students must register for courses and pay bills prior to checking-in to residence halls; students residing in the Residence Halls must have a Catamount ID Card to check into the building.)

1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.          Self-Guided Tours of Academic Buildings--- Mary F. Shipper Library

---Pick up maps and find out where your classes are going to be held.

3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.          Walk-In Computer Help--- Library

4:00 p.m.                               Commuter Orientation---Student Union Loft

4:45 p.m.                               New Residence Hall Students meet up with your Residence Hall Coordinators & Resident Assistants and begin making way up to the Church McKee Arts Center

New Commuter Students please start making your way up to the Church McKee Arts Center

5:00 p.m. –5:30 p.m.          New Student Welcome---Church McKee Auditorium

5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.          Dinner on the Quad
