Donald Finley, Sr. to be inducted into PSC's Athletic Hall of Fame
Donald Finley, Sr. will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Potomac State College (PSC) of West Virginia University during the PSC Alumni Association’s annual banquet, which honors former as well as current student athletes. The banquet will be held in the Davis Conference Center on Saturday, April 26. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner following at 6:30 p.m.

Finley attended Potomac State from 1973 – 1975 where he soon became an integral member of the basketball team. As a freshman, Finley led the Catamounts in scoring with 416 points. During his sophomore year, Finley served as co-captain and again led the Catamounts in scoring, racking up 626 points for a two-year total of 1042 points. He also led the team in rebounding that same year with a total of 268 rebounds.
After completing his studies at Potomac State, Finley transferred to Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va. where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social work.
In addition to serving as a residential counselor and supervisor at Timber Ridge School in Cross Junction, Va. for 25 years, Finley also coached basketball for 15 of those years. He was named ‘Direct Care Worker of the Year’ by the National Association of Private Special Centers in Marcos Island, Fla. After leaving Timber Ridge, he provided home and school counseling for Family Preservation Services, Inc.
Finley is currently employed as a student support specialist at Handley High School in Winchester, Va. where he also serves as the assistant coach for the boys’ basketball team.
Finley was the first African American to be elected to the position of city councilman in Winchester’s history and served in that capacity from 1992 to 1998. He has served on numerous boards and was the chief organizer for the annual ‘Family Day’ event in Winchester. He was revered in the book, “Local Heroes” written by Dr. Bernard Lewis, for his many contributions to the Winchester community.
Finley and his wife, Gwendolyn, are the parents of Britni and Donald, Jr. and the grandparents of B.J., Nyasia, Destiny, Braylan, and Kayden.
