Potomac State celebrates Weekend of Honors
Potomac State College of West Virginia University will celebrate their Ninth Annual Weekend of Honors beginning April 23 and running through April 27. Leading the events this year are the celebrations for the Outstanding Staff Person of the Year and the Outstanding Professor of the Year.
Saturday, April 26 will offer a variety of activities including a doubleheader baseball game at Golden Park, pitting the PSC Catamounts against Monroe College with a starting time of noon. Later that evening, Alumnus Donald Finley, Sr. (Class of 1975), will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame during the annual awards banquet; current student athletes will also be honored during that time.
The banquet requires reservations and should be made no later than April 18 by calling Libby Nichols at 304-788-6870 or 800-262-7332, extension 6870, or by emailing her at LMNichols@mail.wvu.edu . Social hour is at 6 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m.; the cost is $20 per person.
Sunday, April 27 will offer a full day of activities as well. The Catamounts baseball team will face CCBC-Catonsville at noon. The Scholars’ Wall Program will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Academic Achievement Wall located between Academy Hall and the Administration Building. Those individuals who will have their names inscribed on the Scholars’ Wall include: Alumnus Roy H. Whipp (Class of 1967); the late music professor, Dr. John Hawkins; and Students Tyler Detrick and Jacob Richards.
The weekend will culminate with the Recognition Day Ceremony where students will be honored for their academic dedication and with the induction of new members into the Sigma Phi Omega Honor Society during the annual Sigma Phi Omega banquet.
