Caps and Gowns
Associates graduates: remember to pick up your cap, gown, and tassel at the College Bookstore.
RBA and BAS graduates: you need to order bachelors' degree gowns. Place your order at the bookstore as soon as possible but at least ten days prior to the ceremony.
The College provides the caps and gowns at no charge. Do not delay as limited numbers of each size are available.
Honor Cords for Veterans and Active Military Personnel
Potomac State College is proud to formally recognize current and former military personnel who are participating in the 2014 May commencement. Red, white and blue cords will be made available to service members at the Office of Enrollment Services. If the student is not currently receiving VA educational benefits, the student will need to bring documentation of military service.
Cords may be worn over academic regalia during the ceremony.
We thank these students for their service and look forward to providing this recognition as part of our graduation ceremony.
Commencement invitations are available for sale in the College Bookstore.
Applying for Graduation
Students anticipating graduating in May should apply by Friday, March 28, using the application provided at the link below. Applications submitted after April 11 may be accepted at the discretion of the Academic Dean.
To graduate, a student must complete all degree requirements and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or above.
Students may participate in the Commencement ceremonies without completing all graduation requirements if they are no more than six (6) credits short of completing all requirements and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 1.95. A Graduation Application must be submitted, and no degree will be awarded until requirements are met.
Transcripts will be mailed to other colleges and universities only if a written request is submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services. There is a $9.00 charge for each official transcript after the first transcript which is free.
Students changing their campus to WVU do not need to request that a transcript be sent since we share a student information system.
Loan Exit Counseling/ Financial Aid
All student loan borrowers , are required to complete exit loan counseling before graduating, transferring, and/or leaving school or after dropping below half-time status. Since repayment of student loans is a serious obligation, students must complete exit loan counseling even though they may be re-enrolling at West Virginia University, WVU-Tech, or Potomac State College of WVU or transferring to another college/university.
An e-mail will be sent to spring graduates in late March from WVU’s loan servicer, Educational Computer Systems, Inc. (ECSI), requiring completion of loan exit counseling. If the exit counseling has not been completed within the time frame specified, students will have a hold placed on their University records. The hold prohibits the students from obtaining transcripts or grades and from registering for classes at West Virginia University and/or its regional campuses.
