Positions for 2008-2009

 

Full-Time Faculty

 

Potomac State College, a Division of West Virginia University located in Keyser, West Virginia, seeks qualified candidates committed to excellence in teaching and service at the undergraduate level in the following areas:

 

Tenure Track Faculty:

* Education
* English (two positions)
* Mathematics
* Physics

 

Visiting Faculty:


* Agriculture

  • A student-centered commitment to high academic standards and service to students, including an effective and conscientious commitment to academic advising;
  • A commitment to participate in efforts to recruit and retain students;

  • A basic understanding of student learning outcomes assessment; 
  • Experience in or commitment to the application of technology to the teaching/ learning process, including distance learning;
  • A commitment to continued professional development.

Position Descriptions:


All positions are full--ime, nine month, with benefits, with a starting date of August 16, 2008.

 

A doctorate in an appropriate field is preferred, and a master's degree in an appropriate field is required.   Previous college teaching experience is highly valued.

 

Tenure-Track Faculty

 

Education: Instructor or Assistant Professor.  Teaching responsibilities include Education Colloquium and Professional Inquiry in Education as well as multiple sections of University 101 (Orientation: First Year Experience).  In addition, the candidate must be qualified to teach introductory courses in a liberal arts & science subject other than education.  The Instructor or Assistant Professor in Education will advise students majoring in Birth through Pre-K Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Secondary Education.  (Job 210)

 

English:  Instructor or Assistant Professor.  Two positions.  Teaching responsibilities include English composition and rhetoric, developmental English courses, and literature courses. Some off-campus teaching may be required. (Job 215)

 

Mathematics: Instructor or Assistant Professor.  Teaching responsibilities include College Algebra, Plane Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus Mathematics, and calculus through Elementary Differential Equations.  (Job 220)

 

Physics: Instructor or Assistant Professor.  Teaching responsibilities include Introductory Physics, Conceptual Physics, and General Physics.  (Job 225)

 

 

Visiting Faculty

 

Agriculture:  Instructor or Assistant Professor.  Teaching responsibilities include agricultural and resource economics and animal and veterinary sciences.  Experience in agricultural production or agribusiness is desirable.  Advising students and student organizations is expected.  (Job 230)

 

Business:  Instructor or Assistant Professor.  Teaching responsibilities include upper-division courses in Business Administration and Business Technology.  A demonstrated knowledge of computer applications in business is required.  The Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor in Business will advise students in the Bachelor of Applied Science/ Business Management emphasis program.  (Job 235)

 

The College

 

 

Founded in 1901, Potomac State College is a predominantly two-year college offering seven Associate in Arts degrees, eight Associate in Applied Science degrees, and one certificate. A Bachelor of Applied Science degree is also offered, with emphases in Business Management and Criminal Justice.    

 

The campus includes two classroom buildings, a library, an arts center, five residence halls, two operating farms, and athletic facilities supporting an inter-collegiate athletics program.

 

The College is presently experiencing a significant increase in enrollment, subsequent to its merger with West Virginia University in 2005.  As a fully integrated division of West Virginia University, Potomac Stage College is committed to advancing the mission of the University and serving the educational needs of residents within its region from the College's campus in Keyser.
