Reference Services

• Answering ready reference questions, i.e., questions requiring a date, location, name, or other short answer.
• Advising patrons on research strategies.
• Advising patrons on the strengths and weaknesses of the Library's collection in relation to the patron's information needs.
• Teaching patrons how to locate and use reference tools.
• Suggesting possible research strategies, possible tools, and alternative methods of locating information.
• Locating obituaries/birth notices for out-of-state patrons doing genealogy research. However, the Reference Librarian will not spend more than 30 minutes per inquiry. If the search requires more than 30 minutes, the patron must hire a student or contact a friend or family member living in the area to do the research for him/her.

• Proofreading assignments.
