WVU BOG Approves Acquisition of Former Potomac Valley Hospital

During their monthly meeting on Friday afternoon, Sept. 9, the West Virginia University (WVU) Board of Governors approved the acquisition and renovation of the former Potomac Valley Hospital and property. Potomac State College, a division of WVU, intends to operate the main building primarily as a student housing facility.

WVU will acquire the former Potomac Valley Hospital and property consisting of approximately three acres, including two structures totaling approximately 44,000 square feet, and a parking lot for a sum of $600,000.

Potomac State College plans to renovate the upper two floors of the main building to meet student housing needs for approximately 50 students. Commercial space will be maintained on the main floor and businesses currently at those locations will have the opportunity to remain in the building.

According to Campus Provost Kerry Odell, renovation is set to begin later this fall with a tentative completion date of August 2012.

The former Potomac Valley Hospital was vacated in 2008 upon completion of the new facility located at 100 Pin Oak Lane, in Keyser, W.Va.
