Potomac State to celebrate Weekend of Honors

Potomac State College (PSC) of West Virginia University will soon be celebrating its Seventh Annual Weekend of Honors from April 19 – 22. Leading the events this year is the celebration for the ‘Outstanding Staff Person of the Year’ and the ‘Outstanding Professor of the Year’ Awards on Thursday, April 19.
Saturday, April 21 will offer a variety of activities including a double-header baseball game at Golden Park, pitting the Catamounts against Monroe College with a starting time of 1 p.m.
Later that evening, current student athletes will be honored while former athletes will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at the Annual Awards Banquet. This year’s inductees are Jake Ellifritz, Class of 2000 and Randy Baker, Class of 1988.
The banquet requires reservations and should be made no later than April13 by calling Libby Nichols at 304-788-6870 or 800-262-7332, extension 6870, or by emailing her at firstname.lastname@example.org . Social hour is at 5:30 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6 p.m.; the cost is $20 per person.
Sunday, April 22 will offer a full day of activities as well. The Catamount baseball team will face Chesapeake College at 2 p.m. at Golden Park.
Next, students, alumni and former faculty will be honored during a special ceremony with the inscription of their names on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Academic Achievement Wall which begins at 2:30 p.m. at the ‘Wall’ between Academy Hall and the Administration Building.
The Recognition Day Ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Lough Gymnasium and recognizes student achievement for the 2011-2012 school year. The Sigma Phi Omega Banquet begins at 5 p.m. in the Davis Conference Center. New members are inducted into the honor society during this time.
The Sigma Phi Omega Banquet also requires reservations and should be made through Andrea Bucklew at 304-788-6918 or Vicki Huffman at 304-788-6971. The cost is $15 per person. The deadline for making reservations is April 13.
