Karen Peer named Outstanding Staff Person of the Year

Karen Peer, senior administrative assistant in the Provost’s Office, was named the “2012 Outstanding Staff Person of the Year” during the recent Weekend of Honors at Potomac State College of West Virginia University.

One of Peer’s nominators had this to say, “Karen is meticulous in her work and highly respected by the faculty, her peers and our students. She is the consummate professional who is trustworthy, honest and sincere and has been a valued colleague.”

Peer graduated from Potomac State College in 1972 with an associate of arts degree in executive secretarial science. She began working at the College in 1983 and over the years has worked in the executive dean, president and campus provost offices.   She has served under the leadership of eight head administrators of the College.

“Karen has been of extraordinary service to the chief executive officers of PSC for almost 29 years and has skillfully performed her many duties. She is always helpful, pleasant, dependable, and efficient,” added another individual on the nominating committee.

Peer also served as secretary of the PSC Social Club for 14 years, vice president of the Social Club for one year, secretary of the Classified Employees Council for six years, and has served on numerous committees over the years.

Peer, who resides in Ft. Ashby, W.Va., is active in her church and community and enjoys spending time with her family.
