PSC advances to Region XX Championship Game
ARNOLD, MD — Potomac State went to the playbook to score both of its goals off of set plays Thursday evening to hand Anne Arundel a 2-0 loss in the semifinals of the Region XX Tournament.
The win pits the top-seeded Catamounts against No. 3 Montgomery-Rockville at 1 p.m. in Saturday’s finals. Rockville beat Howard 4-0 in their semifinals match.
The Cats got their first goal from Justin Winebrenner when he knocked in a corner kick by Zach Saylor at 2:41 of the first half. The second goal also came off of a corner kick when Garrett Kiddy assisted Nathan Main at 18:15.
The PSC defense and goalie Conor Fungaroli took it from there. The Cats allowed six shots to the Pioneers and Fungaroli made two stops in the shutout.
Caleb Klakring had 10 saves for Anne Arundel with the Cats taking a total of 18 shots. Potomac State led 7-3 in corner kicks.
The win improves Potomac State to 15-2. The last time it lost was a 3-1 decision to Rockville in the Cats’ final regular season outing.
