Upcoming STEM Festival Accepting Proposals
Last year the Mineral County STEM Network introduced a new Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics (STEM) Festival to area students and parents. It was so successful that the group will host the event again on Saturday, March 22 from 12 – 4 p.m. at Potomac State College of WVU, Keyser, W.Va.
This area STEM Festival is modeled after the USA Science and Engineering Festival and Expo held in Washington, D.C. It is an exciting venue to experience the numerous hands-on activities!
The mission of the festival is to re-invigorate the interest of our youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) activities and careers by producing and presenting compelling, exciting, educational and entertaining science gatherings.
Business, industry and organizations are encouraged to participate by providing a hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) activity that will stimulate interest and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Presentations are needed that appeal to all levels: elementary, middle and high school students.
Proposals are easy to submit on line and are due by Feb. 1, 2014. Click on: http://mineralstem.com/SpeakerApp.php. Last year all spaces were full so be sure to submit your proposal by the deadline.
The planning committee co-chairpersons are Gary Seldomridge, Potomac State College of WVU, Craig Kesner, Alliant Techsystems and Scott Staley, Mineral County Schools. If you have questions about the proposals contact Gary Seldomridge at 304-788-6972 or GASeldomridge@mail.wvu.edu.
The Mineral County STEM Network’s purpose is to increase communication among individuals, business/industry and organizations interested in encouraging our youths to consider the different STEM fields for careers.
The USA Science and Engineering Festival and Expo will be held on April 26 and 27 on the Mall in Washington, D.C. To learn more visit these websites: http://www.usasciencefestival.org/ and http://www.facebook.com/pages/USA-Science-Engineering-Festival
