Hawkins accepts position as math tutor at Potomac State
Samuel Hawkins recently accepted the position of math tutor at Potomac State College of West Virginia University (WVU). In this position, Hawkins is responsible for tutoring students in math, from developmental math through the calculus courses and also runs the math lab for the Catamount Success Academy at the College.
Hawkins earned both his master’s degree and his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from WVU, as well as a minor is Spanish, and graduated Cum Laude this past spring.
Previous experience includes serving as a teaching assistant at WVU where he mentored undergraduate students and independently taught sections of calculus to college students. He has served as a lab mentor for math and also as a research assistant with two mathematics professors.
Prior to that, Hawkins worked as a direct support professional at the Potomac Center in Romney, W.Va. where he assisted developmentally disabled children with daily life skills, helped employees keep written records of each child’s personal goals, plans, etc. and led fellow employees in planning activities and games for the children in their care.
Hawkins is the son of Mary Theresa Hawkins and the late Dr. John Hawkins, who was employed at the College for 34 years. He has one son, Braedan Jacob.
