Alumna Elected to Prominent Position
Pamela K. (Sheirer) Wilkinson, Class of 1979, was recently elected to a four-year term as Director of Conferences with the Executive Council of the International System Safety Society.
In this role, Wilkinson will develop and maintain a guide for conducting Society conferences, maintain historical records of past conferences and assist in the management of conferences as required. She will also work with Regional Chapters of the Society as well as prepare and plan the annual International System Safety Conference. “I look forward to contributing my knowledge and experience in the field of safety as director of conferences,” stated Wilkinson.
According to their website, “The ISSS is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Safety Professional in the application of Systems Engineering and Systems Management to the process of hazard, safety and risk analysis. The Society is international in scope and draws members throughout the world. It is affiliated with major corporations, educational institutions and other agencies in the United States and abroad.”
Wilkinson was also honored in June of this year by the American Society of Safety Engineers with the Military Branch’s ‘Significant Contributor Award’ for her hard work and efforts in advancing the occupational safety, health and environmental profession through her outstanding volunteer service to the Society.
After graduating from Potomac State with an associate degree in agriculture, Wilkinson earned her bachelor’s degree in agriculture education from WVU and her master’s degree in safety sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
“Potomac State College has always held a special place in my heart. I met so many life-long friends there. The college prepared me for both my continued studies and throughout my career,” added Wilkinson.
Wilkinson currently serves as the division safety manager for Hillphoenix, Inc., a refrigerated case manufacturer. She also serves on the Potomac State College Alumni Board.
Wilkinson resides in Virginia with her husband, John, Class of 1978 and enjoys traveling, camping and photography.
