KEYSER - Aging & Family Services of Mineral County is excited to announce that they will be hosting the Senior Olympics from June 7-10.

This is the 15th year hosting this event. Annually, over 130 seniors from across West Virginia and surrounding states participate in a variety of competitions.

The events are held at Potomac State College in Keyser and other locations within the community.

The competitions will begin on Tuesday afternoon and culminate with the awards ceremony on Friday.

“Our Senior Olympics philosophy is to provide activities for all seniors, regardless of age or athletic ability,” explains Scott Mallery, director of Mineral County Aging & Family Services.

From Bocce to basketball and from Bingo to the spelling bee; events are chosen to include the physical as well as the nonphysical activities. The variety of games ensures the accommodation of all skill levels and promotes an atmosphere of competition while still focusing on the importance of socialization. Events such as the picnic, banquet, and the talent show allow the participants to become better acquainted with each other.

“We appreciate the support from the community and realize that this event would not be a reality without our financial partners,” Mallery said. “These games are made possible because of our dedicated group of staff and volunteers, the generosity of our corporate sponsors, and hospitality of Potomac State College of West Virginia.”

The application and schedule of events can be found at local senior centers or on the website –www.wvaging.com.
